Why should I study Screen and Media?
Adelaide is becoming the visual effects capital of Australia, with major industry media companies such as Technicolour and Rising Sun Pictures establishing visual effects studios. The Certificate III in Screen and Media is designed for students to begin their journey within the entertainment design industry and develop their digital art and design skills as well as introduce them to a variety of pathways available to them within this industry.
Throughout the program, CDW Studios provides support through resources and workshops for students. Together, we’re proud to provide an innovative program that gives students greater opportunities and a head-start in the industry.
Students may choose this subject if they are interested in pathways leading to this industry, or those who enjoy creating digital art or design works that want to further their knowledge and practical skills.
This course is delivered through the VET for School Students (VFSS) funding scheme. Participant Eligibility Criteria apply. Supported by Government of South Australia.

What do other students think about Screen and Media?
This course has really opened up my opportunities in career paths and has encouraged me to continue in the line of digital art for my career path. This course has the greatest teachers who help to support me in order to complete my course. Screen and Media has the best atmosphere to work in with very social students and teachers. The best part of my learning happens in the design studio. This course has helped me to improve my artwork and the theory based around it.

I absolutely loved my time in Screen and Media! Having the opportunity to ‘dip my toes’ into different parts of design, character design, environment design, even 3D, was so beneficial in figuring out just what path in design I wanted to go down. Especially now that I plan on going to CDW Studios, an option for University I didn’t even know about before Screen and Media. My art and work ethic have improved significantly now that I’ve done the course and, as a bonus, I have a Certificate III up my sleeve! It’s prepared me for University and a job far better than any other class. I don’t think I could’ve spent a year of my time any better!

The instructors in this course were always so incredibly friendly, and the environment of the class was one that I looked forward to every week. They really helped me develop my skills in multiple areas and it was a good experience being able to critique each others work in a safe and supportive environment. The course being partnered with CDW Studios was the main reason I joined the course, and with the instructors help, I developed a portfolio that got me into the Bachelor of Visual Effects and Entertainment Design at Flinders University and CDW Studios. I am currently in my third and final year of my university course, and without the screen and media course or instructors at Thebarton, I don’t think I would be where I am today doing what I love.
