Welcome to Home Economics at Thebarton Senior College.

Home Economics is a broad learning area that teaches students different ways to read the world. Home Economics students are empowered to improve the everyday lives of both themselves and their families.

Through Home Economics you will become literate in the Food, Health, Consumer and Environmental worlds, enabling you to design evaluate and make Decisions about authentic problems in these areas. You will also develop practical skills preparing you for work in the hospitality, childcare, textile and community service industries.

Home Economics students have transferable skills that can be applied to all areas of life. They are innovative enterprising and creative learners. They have the knowledge to make informed, responsible and ethical choices and are effective team players.

Home Economics creates pathways for future dieticians, Educators, Food Technologists, stylists and writers, health care workers, product developers, chefs and hotel managers to name a few. Excitingly, the service industry has grown by 27 percent over the past 20 years and the healthcare industry is Australia’s largest and fastest-growing employer.

If a career in one of these growth areas interests you, then a Home Economics pathway at Thebarton is the right choice
